Iraq sets deadline for bringing all weapons under state control
The Iraqi government has set September 2027 as the deadline for completing its plan to place all weapons exclusively under state control, Government spokesman Haider Al-Aboudi has stated.
He said the authorities remain committed to the “full concentration of weapons in the hands of the state” in accordance with the timelines set out in the government program, Caliber.Az reports, citing Asharq Al-Awsat.
The program will expire in September next year, which coincides with the completion of the International Coalition’s mission.
Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of continuing the project of concentrating weapons in the hands of the state, while expressing appreciation for political forces that support the path of stability and reform.
Meanwhile, the government commission responsible for the disarmament and integration process has received the personal data of fighters from Kataib Imam Ali.
The paramilitary group has become the latest faction, following Saraya Al-Salam, to initiate the integration of its members into Iraq’s state security institutions.
