IRGC confirms destruction of vessel linked to Israel in Persian Gulf
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for the destruction of a container ship it alleges was transporting equipment destined for Israel, according to a statement broadcast on its official television channel.
The IRGC said the vessel was targeted during what it described as a reconnaissance and missile operation carried out by its forces. The ship was reportedly en route to deliver military equipment to Israel via the United Arab Emirates port of Khor Fakkan, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
In its statement, the IRGC characterised the strike as a “precision operation” and warned that similar actions could be taken against any vessels cooperating with Israel or the United States.
“The destruction of this ship serves as a warning to all vessels that wish to cooperate with Israel or the United States in any way,” the statement said.
Earlier reports had indicated that a container ship in the Persian Gulf was struck by a projectile, causing damage to the vessel. Independent verification of the IRGC’s claims has not yet been confirmed.
