Media: Israel tried to kill Basij commander in nighttime strike on Iran

Over the night of March 16 to 17, Israel attempted to eliminate the senior officer of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the commander of the Basij unit, Gholamreza Soleimani, as reported by the Jewish news website N12.

Soleimani leads the unit responsible for the harsh suppression of civilian protests in Iran.

The assassination attempt was carried out last night due to an operational opportunity that Israel sought to exploit. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are still assessing the results of the strike.

Earlier today, March 17, the same Israeli outlet published a report indicationg that on the night of March 16 to 17, the IDF also targeted Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
