Israel Defense Forces: Too early to fully gauge damage to Iran’s nuclear programme

25 June 2025 12:30

Spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin has announced that while initial assessments indicate significant damage to Iran’s nuclear capabilities, it remains “too early” to fully evaluate the impact of recent military operations.

Defrin addressed the issue at a press conference, stating, “We met all the objectives of the operation as defined for us, even better than we thought. But it is still too early to determine, we are investigating the results of the strikes on the different sections of the nuclear program,” Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.

He also noted, “The assessment is that we significantly damaged the nuclear program, and I can say we set it back by years.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared in a video address that Israel achieved a “historic victory” by eliminating two existential threats: Iran’s nuclear weapons programme and its arsenal of 20,000 ballistic missiles.

He added that if Iran attempts to rebuild its programme, Israel will take decisive action once again.

The leak of a report on the situation in Iran undermined Donald Trump’s triumph at the NATO summit.

US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff stated that it will be impossible for Iran to restart its nuclear programme following the US strikes. Trump continues persuading the public and senators that Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been thoroughly defeated.
