Israel destroys one-kilometre tunnel in Gaza
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that Israeli forces uncovered a subterranean tunnel approximately one kilometre long during an operation in central Gaza.
The military thoroughly inspected the underground structure before proceeding to destroy it, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The tunnel was used by members of the radical Palestinian group Hamas and was located near residential buildings and civilian areas. Several rooms and equipment that Hamas terrorists used for extended stays were found inside the tunnel," the statement said.
The situation in the Middle East escalated following the deaths of key figures in late July and early August, including Fuad Shukr, the commander of Hezbollah armed forces, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas political bureau, and Muhammed Deif, the leader of Hamas military wing. Responsibility for these deaths has been attributed to Israel.
Fighting in the Gaza Strip has persisted since October 7, 2023, following an attack by the radical Palestinian group Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and over 200 individuals taken hostage. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation "Iron Swords". The death toll has since exceeded 40,000 over more than six months of conflict.
