Israel Security Agency nabs suspects in major espionage case involving Iran
Israeli police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have arrested two Israeli citizens, Roi Mizrahi and Almog Atias, both 24 years old and residents of Nesher, on suspicion of committing crimes against state security.
The two men were involved in espionage activities for Iranian intelligence services, reportedly carrying out tasks in exchange for financial compensation, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
One of their missions included gathering intelligence in a settlement where Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz resides. In one particular operation, the suspects were tasked with digging up a bag that had been buried and relocating it to another location. One of the arrested men claimed that the bag likely contained an explosive device, raising concerns over the potential threat posed by the operation.
In response to the incident, Katz condemned the involvement of Iranian-backed groups in attempts to undermine Israeli security. He stressed that Iran is actively supporting terrorist activities directed at high-ranking government officials and civilians across Israel, both directly and through its proxy organisations.
