Israel strikes Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza with kamikaze robots First attack of its kind
Israel has escalated its military operations in Gaza, launching new strikes on the Kamal Adwan hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.
This marked the first use of kamikaze robots in an attack on the facility, Caliber.Az reports via Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.
The Israeli military shelled the hospital using tanks and deployed attack drones during the assault. The hospital, which is currently housing around 400 civilians, including newborn babies in incubators, is located in an area that is almost impossible to evacuate. Husam Abu Safia, the hospital's director, provided further details, stating, "Recently, two combat robots exploded near the hospital, causing serious damage, injuring about 20 people, both staff and patients. The explosion happened very close, and this is the first time they have used this kind of robots."
The Kamal Adwan Hospital is one of the many medical facilities in Gaza that has been struggling to provide care amidst ongoing bombardment, with a large number of patients, including vulnerable newborns, facing difficult conditions due to the lack of resources and medical supplies.
In addition to the attack on the hospital, Israeli airstrikes targeted a humanitarian convoy in the central Gaza Strip. The convoy was carrying aid for starving Palestinians when it was struck by Israeli drones, killing at least four people. According to Al Jazeera, four security guards who were protecting the convoy were killed in the attack. The strike brings the death toll from Israeli attacks over the past 24 hours to at least 26, with three others reported wounded.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported the deaths of three of its soldiers in ongoing fighting against Hamas forces in Gaza. The soldiers, a 22-year-old captain and two 21-year-old sergeants from the Shimshon Battalion of the Kfir Brigade were killed during combat in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. With these fatalities, the total number of Israeli military deaths in the conflict has now reached 821.
The latest violence follows the dramatic escalation of the conflict after the October 7, 2023, attack by armed Hamas militants, who infiltrated Israeli territory, killing civilians and taking hostages in border settlements. In response, Israel imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip and launched extensive airstrikes on Gaza, parts of Lebanon, and Syria. A ground operation has also been underway in Gaza, with fighting intensifying. Clashes have also been reported in the West Bank, further escalating tensions in the region.
