Israeli airstrikes on Syria-Lebanon border kill six including civilians, soldiers
The Syrian Defence Ministry has announced that six people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on a checkpoint along the Syrian-Lebanese border.
The attack occurred just before the ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah movement was set to take effect, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
"Israeli airstrikes on the Syria-Lebanon border have resulted in the deaths of six people: two soldiers and four civilians," the ministry said.
The ministry also noted that 12 others were injured, including children, women, and staff members of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.
The airstrikes occurred before the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect. Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have expressed support for the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
In a statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry emphasised that Tehran will continue supporting the Lebanese people and resistance forces. Iran also called on the international community to contribute to peace and stability in the region, urging pressure on Israel to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Israel accepted the US-proposed plan for a ceasefire in Lebanon, which was approved by the Security Cabinet with a majority vote, with one minister dissenting. Authorities in northern Israel have expressed concern over a potential truce with Hezbollah, fearing security threats due to extensive damage to buildings in the region.
