Israeli military explains strike on Gaza school

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have provided an explanation for their recent strike on the Al-Taba'een school in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli intelligence revealed that approximately 20 armed Palestinian militants, including high-ranking commanders, were present at the site prior to the attack, Caliber.Az reports referring to IDF's press service.

The IDF stated that the school compound, which also includes a mosque, was being used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad for launching terrorist operations. The IDF's press service emphasized that these militant groups were utilizing the location to plan and execute attacks.

The strike has drawn significant attention and controversy, with ongoing discussions about the targeting of civilian sites in conflict zones.

Palestinian media and various sources reported that a recent strike has resulted in at least 100 deaths and numerous injuries. Initially, Mahmoud Basal, a representative from Gaza's Civil Defence Agency, reported around 40 fatalities. He also mentioned that rescue teams are working to control fires and recover bodies from the rubble.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas erupted on October 7, 2023, following Hamas's attacks on Israeli territory. Since the outbreak, approximately 1,200 Israelis have been killed, with 5,400 injured and over 200 taken hostage. In response, Israeli military operations have led to around 40,000 Palestinian deaths and approximately 92,000 injuries, with a significant number of casualties being women and children.
