Italian fashion house Prada registers a new brand in Russia

Italian luxury fashion house Prada, which has halted retail operations in Russia, has registered a new trademark in the country under the name Luna Rossa, according to Russian media.

The trademark application was filed with Russia’s Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) in March 2025. The registered mark falls under Class 3 of the International Classification of Goods and Services, which covers products such as perfume and cosmetics.

The rights to the new trademark are valid through March 2035.

Although Prada suspended its activities in Russia in 2022, its local legal entity, Prada Rus, continues to operate. Since 2021, the company’s revenue in Russia has declined significantly—from 6.9 billion rubles (about $89.7 million) to 1 billion rubles (about $13 million). At the same time, Russian sales of Prada products reportedly jumped by 65% in 2025.

Prada is not the only luxury brand moving to secure intellectual property in Russia. French fashion house Louis Vuitton recently registered two new trademarks in the country: the Les Gastons Vuitton collection logo and the name Heures D’absence for jewellery and accessories. Exclusive rights to these marks will run until October 1, 2035.

Swiss watchmaker Rolex has also registered two trademarks in Russia — Daytona and RLX Rolex — with exclusive use rights valid through December 2034.

In addition, fashion house Chanel has applied to register a trademark in Russia for products that would include costume jewellery made of base metal, decorative statuettes, and textile storage pouches.
