Italian Senate supports arms supply to Ukraine
Italy's upper house of parliament, the Senate, has approved a government decree to send weapons to Ukraine in 2023.
Some 125 senators supported this initiative, 28 stood against it, and two more abstained, according to local news agency Ansa.
The voting on the decree will be held in the Chamber of Deputies, after which the document must be approved.
Representatives of the opposition Five Star Movement party opposed the sending of military aid.
The Italian parliament approved a resolution on rendering assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance, in March 2022.
Following the elections in October 2022, the new composition of the country’s government approved a decree extending the terms of military assistance for 2023.
According to the media, Rome may supply mortars, machine guns, Stinger missiles, anti-tank weapons, military helmets and body armour, as well as heavy weapons to Kyiv.
