Japarov thanks Erdoğan for cancelling Kyrgyzstan’s $62.3 million external debt
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov announced the cancellation of $62.3 million of Kyrgyzstan's external debt to Türkiye during a press conference on November 5, 2024, coinciding with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Kyrgyzstan from November 4 to 6.
Expressing his gratitude, Japarov remarked, “I would like to express my gratitude to President Erdoğan for his decision to cancel Kyrgyzstan's external debt to Türkiye,” Caliber.Az reports per Kyrgyz media.
This gesture aligns with Kyrgyzstan's ongoing initiatives to foster a green economy, with the debt cancellation tied to projects aimed at environmental sustainability. Notably, this follows Germany's previous cancellation of $14 million in external debt in exchange for implementing similar green initiatives.
The discussions between the two leaders highlighted not only the financial cooperation but also a shared vision for a prosperous future. Japarov emphasised his commitment to ensuring a modern and thriving Türkiye, as he looks to leave a legacy for future generations. This sentiment reflects the broader aim of enhancing economic collaboration and advancing mutual interests within the region.
In parallel, during a meeting of the Nationalist Movement Party of Türkiye, party leader Devlet Bahçeli asserted that President Erdoğan is a guarantor of continuity in the state, political stability, and the establishment of a Turkish century.
“He loves the nation, and due to his experience and knowledge, he is the only option for us,” Bahçeli remarked.
