Kazakh official: No treason found in posts supporting Ukrainian strikes on CPC

27 January 2026 12:57

Kazakh authorities have found no signs of treason or calls for terrorism in social media posts by Kazakh citizens that expressed support for Ukrainian strikes on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), the country’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva said.

The posts are currently under judicial review as part of an ongoing criminal investigation under charges of inciting social and national discord, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

A psychological and philological examination of the content has been ordered, while the identities of those behind the posts and comments are still being established.

Earlier, lawmaker Aidos Sarym called for authorities to investigate the authors of pro-Ukrainian attack posts for possible promotion of terrorism and treason.

The CPC pipeline is a major export route, handling around 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil shipments abroad.

On January 6, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan launched an investigation following social media posts that appeared to endorse attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure in autumn 2025.

The inquiry, revealed in a response to a parliamentary request, is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 174 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code, concerning incitement of national hatred.

The Prosecutor’s Office said steps are being taken to identify the individuals involved and collect evidence, after which a final legal qualification and procedural decision will be made.

The investigation follows concerns raised by Majilis deputy Aidos Sarym, who argued that approving such attacks goes beyond constitutional free speech and directly harms national interests. He warned that reduced oil transportation could cause significant economic losses.
