Kazakh president appoints new minister of labour

Kazakhstan has appointed Yertaev Askarbek Maratovich as the new Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, according to the presidential press service Akorda.

He previously served as First Vice Minister of the same department since June 2025, Caliber.Az reports.

The appointment was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: “By decree of the Head of State, Yertaev Askarbek Maratovich has been appointed Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

Born in 1977 in Aktobe, Yertaev graduated from K. Zhubanov Aktobe State University and the Aktobe Institute of Management, Business and Law “NUR.” He began his career in 1997 in local government and later worked in the banking sector (2000–2014). 

From 2014, he held various government roles, including positions in the Ministry of National Economy, the Security Council, and the Prime Minister’s Office. 

From 2023 to 2024, he chaired the Migration Committee of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, and from August 2024, he served as Vice Minister before becoming First Vice Minister in June 2025.

Earlier, President Tokayev dismissed Svetlana Zhakupova from the position of Minister of Labour and Social Protection by presidential decree.
