Kazakh president supports Trans-Altai Dialogue to boost regional cooperation
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has voiced support for the “Trans-Altai Dialogue,” an initiative aimed at developing the region encompassing Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia.
“Promising prospects lie in the new initiative to establish the ‘Trans-Altai Dialogue,’ aimed at effectively leveraging the potential of the Eurasian Altai region, which is unique in terms of territory, population, and economic power,” Tokayev said at the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in Tianjin, China, on September 1, Caliber.Az informs, citing Kazakh media.
Tokayev emphasised the need to further develop transport connectivity among the countries, and to collaborate on transit and tariff strategies. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
“This global project could generate up to $1.5 trillion annually for all participants in trade and logistics operations along the Belt and Road route,” the president noted.
He also pointed to the significant potential of the North–South and East–West transport corridors, as well as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
“This issue could be included in the agenda for discussions among port and logistics centre leaders at the upcoming first SCO Forum in November in Aktau,” Tokayev added.
On August 31 and September 1, 2025, the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is underway in Tianjin, China. The summit, held at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center, brought together over 20 world leaders and heads of 10 international organizations to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and multilateral development.
