Türkiye dismisses reports of Coxsackie cases among Russian visitors

28 July 2026 10:05

Authorities in Antalya have denied reports of a mass outbreak of Coxsackie virus among Russian tourists, stating that there is no evidence of widespread infections at local hotels.

“Information about a mass infection of Russian tourists with the Coxsackie virus is not true. The situation in hotels in Antalya is stable,” the municipality told RIA Novosti.

The statement comes after Russia’s Rospotrebnadzor sent a request on July 21 to Türkiye’s Ministry of Health seeking clarification on the epidemiological situation following media reports of infections among Russian visitors. According to the agency, several cases were recorded at the IC Santai Family Resort. Officials have rejected claims of a broader outbreak.

Coxsackie virus is typically transmitted through close contact, as well as via contaminated food and water. Common symptoms include high fever, rash, and inflammation of the mucous membranes.
