Kazakh president urges global ceasefire, offers Turkestan as peace talks venue
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called on countries around the world to halt military actions and move towards negotiations, warning that escalating conflicts risk undermining global stability and the economy.
Speaking via the presidential press service Akorda, Tokayev described the current geopolitical climate as “extremely tense and unstable,” pointing to intensifying conflicts across multiple regions.
“Armed conflicts and even wars have intensified in many countries, negatively affecting the global economy. We see what is happening in the Middle East. The confrontation has escalated sharply. In my view, ultimately no state will benefit from this conflict,” he said.
Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan is located in a region where tensions persist, adding urgency to his appeal.
“From this sacred land, I want to address all countries. First of all, I urge an end to armed attacks on civilian and economic facilities. Then it is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table,” he said.
While noting that Kazakhstan does not seek to act as a mediator, Tokayev said the country is ready to provide a platform for dialogue, proposing the city of Turkestan as a potential venue for peace talks.
He emphasised that any resolution ultimately depends on the states directly involved in the conflicts, describing his initiative as “a gesture of goodwill from the Kazakh people.”
“Before it is too late, it is necessary to stop military actions and begin negotiations. Otherwise, peaceful life for many nations will be disrupted, the foundations of global stability undermined, and a global economic crisis could follow,” Tokayev warned.
