Kazakhstan vows to legalise local use of Starlink internet
Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Mussin has said that the use of satellite internet by the US Starlink company will be regulated in Kazakhstan in 2024 at the legislative level.
Mussin made these remarks during a briefing in the Kazakh government, RBC reports citing Vlast.kz magazine.
“We plan to resolve this whole situation next year, I can’t say in the first half of the year or in the second, because everything depends on the Majilis [parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan]. First, we should develop a model, then we will come to the Majilis and continue discussing,” the minister said.
He noted that the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, together with Starlink, is connecting ten rural schools to the internet in pilot mode, and within six months they will connect 2,000 educational institutions. However, now there are legal restrictions in Kazakhstan.
