Kremlin aide: Russia awaits US response following Putin-Witkoff talks

05 December 2025 11:04

The Kremlin is currently awaiting a response from its US counterparts following the December 2 discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said.

He noted that the date for the next meeting with Steven Witkoff is not yet known, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.

A phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is also not currently on the agenda, though Ushakov noted it could be arranged quickly if necessary.

“It’s all very easy to organise. Recall how Anchorage was arranged in three days, and everything was agreed. As soon as the conditions for presidential contacts—by phone or in person—are in place, it will be done fairly quickly,” he explained.

On December 2, 2025, Putin met in Moscow with US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss a proposed US peace plan for ending the war in Ukraine.

The framework under discussion was derived from a previously leaked 28-point proposal, later trimmed to about 19–20 points, which, among other things, included limitations on Ukraine’s military, potential security guarantees, and contested territorial provisions.

The Kremlin characterised the roughly five‑hour talks as “useful, constructive and substantive,” but said no compromise had yet been reached — particularly on the core issue of territorial control.
