Kremlin calls new US Russia sanctions "unfriendly" step

17 September 2026 15:20

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described the U.S. Congress's approval of new sanctions against Russia as an “unfriendly” step, warning that additional restrictions could complicate efforts to reach a peace settlement in Ukraine.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 16, approved a sweeping sanctions bill targeting Russia, which is named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham and has been described as a “sanctions from hell” package. The legislation has been sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.

“We are, of course, monitoring the progress of this document. It falls under the category of unfriendly actions,” Peskov told reporters.

He added that the sanctions would complicate efforts to find a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Ukraine.
