Kremlin plays down prospects of near-term Putin-Macron call

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans at present to hold a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“There are no plans for a telephone conversation. Putin said that anyone who wishes can call him,” Peskov told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Peskov indicated that the Russian leader remains open to engagement, adding that Putin continues to express readiness for both a meeting and dialogue with Macron.

The remarks suggest that while no immediate contact is scheduled between the two leaders, Moscow is not ruling out future communication at either the presidential or diplomatic level.
