Kremlin reneges on its own statements about Burevestnik and Poseidon
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on reports suggesting that the tests of the Burevestnik and Poseidon missile systems had a nuclear nature, TASS reports.
He called such claims extremely superficial and incorrect, emphasising that dedicated and talented specialists are working on these systems, capable of developing breakthrough technologies.
Responding to U.S. statements, Peskov said: “They should not make such mistakes,” referring to whether U.S. experts could have mistaken tests of Burevestnik and Poseidon for nuclear ones.
He added that these developments are unique: “Burevestnik and Poseidon are world-leading breakthrough technologies that no other country possesses.” According to him, the large number of attendees at the developers’ award ceremony in the Catherine Hall of the Kremlin highlights the scale and significance of the project.
Peskov also stated that President Vladimir Putin has not ordered preparations for nuclear tests: their feasibility must be assessed first. He reminded that Russia remains committed to the nuclear test ban, but will maintain strategic parity if other countries take similar steps.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman emphasised separately that neither Russia nor China conducts nuclear weapons tests.
