Kremlin says NATO remains focused on confronting Russia

NATO was created as an instrument of confrontation and continues to fulfill that role, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in comments to Vesti.

"The alliance's main adversary has always been, first, the Soviet Union, and then its successor state, the Russian Federation. That remains the case," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman also said Russia's leadership and the relevant state agencies are taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country's security, including against Patriot air defence missile systems.
