Kremlin says Russia-US relations remain “not in best shape”

Russia-US relations remain “not in the best shape,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin.

“Russian-American bilateral relations are still, well, to put it mildly, not in the best shape,” the Kremlin spokesman stressed.

Russia and the United States have maintained diplomatic contacts despite tensions, with Moscow recently expressing hope that US-mediated talks on Ukraine could resume soon. On September 9, Peskov said there was “confirmed political will” to restart negotiations.

At the same time, new US sanctions have emerged as a source of friction. On September 21, Peskov warned that the latest US measures would not contribute to reviving bilateral relations or advancing efforts toward a settlement in Ukraine.

Moscow has nevertheless continued contacts with Washington on potential economic cooperation, with Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev holding discussions with US officials during UN General Assembly week in New York.
