Kremlin says Russia to be represented at G20 summit at high level

22 July 2026 14:01

Russia will be represented at a high level at the G20 summit in the United States and will play an active and effective role, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

He noted that the G20 does not require special invitations and that each member state decides the level of its representation independently, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Commenting on the European Union's proposed 21st sanctions package, Peskov reiterated Moscow's position that the bloc's sanctions are illegal under international law.

He argued that while previous EU sanctions had only indirectly harmed European economies, the latest package would have a more direct and painful impact.

"There is no sanctions limit. Nor is there a limit to madness," Peskov added.

On Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesman made it clear that territorial issues were unlikely to be discussed publicly.

He recalled that President Vladimir Putin had outlined Russia's conditions for ending hostilities two years ago during a meeting with senior Foreign Ministry officials, adding that those conditions remain unchanged and are well known internationally, including in Kyiv.

According to Peskov, hostilities could end quickly if Ukraine made what he described as a responsible decision, allowing the sides to move on to "serious and difficult negotiations."
