Kremlin spox: Putin ready to meet Trump without preconditions
Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump without any preconditions, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed during a briefing.
Peskov emphasized that such a meeting requires mutual willingness and political will from Washington, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“President Putin has repeatedly stated his openness to contacts with international leaders, including the US president and Donald Trump,” Peskov remarked. “No conditions are required for this. What is required is a mutual desire and political will to engage in dialogue and solve existing problems through dialogue.”
Trump himself confirmed that Putin is eager to meet, adding that preparations are already underway. He made these comments during a gathering with Republican governors at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
“He wants to meet, and we will organize it,” Trump told reporters, though he did not specify a date or location for the meeting. He also left open the possibility of other world leaders, such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, joining the talks.
“We have a lot of meetings scheduled with a lot of people, but I would wait until January 20,” Trump stated, referring to his upcoming inauguration. He also underscored the importance of resolving the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, signalling this as a priority for his administration.
