28 January 2026 13:45
A powerful fire erupted at the former Volkswagen car factory in Kaluga, Russia, which now assembles vehicles for the Russian brand Tenet (Chery). The blaze reportedly spread over approximately 4,000 square metres.
According to local reports, the fire began when plastic materials in the body shop caught fire and quickly spread to the foam used in the building’s interior cladding. Firefighters responded promptly to contain the blaze, Caliber.Az reports.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The factory, formerly operated by Volkswagen, has been repurposed to assemble Tenet vehicles in recent years.
