Lavrov accuses West of trying to pull Russia’s allies away

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Western countries of attempting to weaken Moscow by drawing its allies away from Russia, particularly among neighbouring states, and warned that a “new kind of war” is already unfolding across Eurasia.

Speaking at the annual assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defence Policy (SFDP), Lavrov said the West was seeking to “pull apart” Russia’s allies, including Armenia, Caliber.Az reports via Rusian media.

“The West is pulling apart, trying to pull apart our allies, starting first and foremost with our neighbours, just as it did with Georgia and Moldova, just as it is doing now with Ukraine, and just as it is now trying to drag Armenia into the same flawed logic,” he said.

Lavrov claimed the broader objective of such actions was to “inflict as much pain as possible on Russia.”

The Russian foreign minister also argued that a wider geopolitical confrontation was already underway across Eurasia.

“Indeed, we must speak quite clearly of a war, and quite clearly of a new one. I am sure we will discuss its global scope today. In Eurasia, it is already in full swing, following the West-orchestrated aggression by Ukraine against Russia, with yet another attempt to weaken our country and knock it out of the ranks of key global players,” he said.

Lavrov further pointed to instability in other regions, including the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

“An operation has begun in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. And there have been clashes on the borders of major states, both in the southern and eastern parts of the Asian continent, not to mention Latin America, where, as we can see, far from everything is over,” he said.
