Lavrov praises Kazakhstan’s support for Russian language promotion
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed gratitude to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his efforts to promote the Russian language, during the first ministerial conference of the International Organisation for the Russian Language.
Lavrov noted that it was Tokayev who, in December 2021, proposed the creation of an international body dedicated to promoting the Russian language, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
A welcoming telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin also highlighted that the initiative received support from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. In the message, Putin said the conference marked the start of practical work for the intergovernmental organisation, established on Tokayev’s initiative and supported by the participating countries.
