Lebanon incursion claims eight Israeli soldiers
On October 2, Israel advanced on two fronts, launching a ground incursion into Lebanon against Hezbollah, resulting in the deaths of eight Israeli soldiers, and conducting airstrikes in Gaza that claimed the lives of dozens, including children.
The Israeli government vowed to respond to Iran's ballistic missile attack from the previous day, raising fears of further escalation in the region, Caliber.Az reports via AP.
Iran, which supports both Hezbollah and the Hamas militants in control of Gaza, fired several missiles into Israel on October 1 night, marking another significant escalation in the ongoing tit-for-tat hostilities that are edging the Middle East closer to a broader conflict.
Israel warned that the attack would bring "repercussions."
According to the Israeli military, seven soldiers were killed in two Hezbollah assaults in southern Lebanon on October 2, though no additional details were provided.
These deaths followed the earlier confirmation of Israel’s first combat casualty in Lebanon since the start of the incursion – a 22-year-old commando captain. Seven other soldiers were also wounded.
