Macron to convene national security council over Iran war
French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council on March 10 to discuss the escalating situation in Iran and the wider Middle East, the Élysée Palace announced.
The session is scheduled for 6:30 PM local time, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
The meeting comes amid ongoing tensions triggered on February 28 by Israeli-American strikes on Iranian targets. Since the outset of the conflict, Macron has conducted a series of crisis consultations to assess security and diplomatic measures.
The council convening follows Macron’s recent announcement of a “purely defensive” mission to clear ships, including oil tankers, blocked in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait, a strategic chokepoint for global oil shipments, has faced significant disruptions since the start of the war by the United States and Israel.
In addition, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will meet on March 11 with representatives of political parties, parliamentary leaders, and heads of relevant committees to review France’s position and response to the unfolding regional crisis.
