Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Afghanistan felt in Uzbekistan
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on February 20, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The tremor occurred at 5:39 p.m. local time and originated at a depth of 79 kilometers, GFZ said, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The earthquake was felt in the Afghan capital, Kabul, as well as in several neighbouring provinces. There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
Weak tremors were also recorded in parts of neighbouring Uzbekistan. Authorities said the shaking measured between 2 and 3 on the local intensity scale in the Surkhandarya region, located approximately 246 kilometres from the epicentre, and around 2 in the Kashkadarya region, about 464 kilometres away.
