Man detained after threatening grenade blast in Russia’s Kamchatka

07 September 2026 11:07

A 43-year-old man has been detained in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky after allegedly threatening to detonate a grenade inside a residential building, Russia’s Interior Ministry branch for Kamchatka Krai said.

The incident occurred on the evening of September 6 on Bokhnyaka Street after residents alerted police that a neighbour was displaying an object resembling a grenade and threatening to cause an explosion. The building was cordoned off, and residents were evacuated, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Police later identified and detained the unemployed local man, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated. An object resembling a grenade was found in his apartment during a search. Bomb disposal specialists and a police dog handler inspected the premises.

Authorities opened a criminal case against the suspect on a hooliganism charge. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison.
