March deadline set for Armenia’s new Constitution draft, justice minister says
Armenia’s revised Constitution is expected to be completed within the next six months, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan said.
Speaking at a press conference, Ghazaryan confirmed that work on the draft remains on schedule, with final conclusions due to be drawn in March and no revisions to the established timeline. The completed text, she said, will be made public once the process is finalized, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“In March, the results of our work will be summed up. We will not deviate from the previously set deadlines. By that time, we will have a finished text, which we will publish,” the minister emphasized.
Galyan stressed that finalizing the draft of the new Constitution is among the key priorities of the Ministry of Justice, reflecting its central role in the government’s broader reform agenda.
The constitutional overhaul has been under discussion at the highest levels of government. In late March 2025, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the authorities are planning to hold a referendum on adopting a new Constitution in 2027. He also noted that within his team there are views favoring the referendum being held alongside the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026, a move that could increase voter turnout and streamline the electoral process.
In April 2025, Pashinyan further clarified the government’s position in parliament, stating that the new Constitution should not contain a reference to the Declaration.
