Masoud Pezeshkian sworn in as Iran’s ninth president
The inauguration ceremony for Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, took place in the Iranian parliament on July 30 afternoon, with numerous foreign dignitaries in attendance.
Pezeshkian was sworn in as the ninth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a ceremony that drew significant international and domestic attention, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
High-level attendance and media coverage
Over 70 foreign delegates, including senior officials and secretary generals of regional and international organizations, attended the ceremony. The event began at 4 p.m. local time and saw the presence of around 600 journalists from both foreign and Iranian media outlets, who gathered to cover this important political event.
Following an opening speech by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the 69-year-old Pezeshkian took the oath of office on the Holy Quran and signed the official affidavit. In his inaugural address, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran's desire for constructive and effective engagement with the world, grounded in principles of dignity, wisdom, and expediency.
Pezeshkian articulated his vision for Iran to become a leading power in the economic, scientific, and technological fields within the region. He urged the international community to recognize the opportunity to address regional and global challenges with Iran’s participation.
The new president condemned the Israeli regime's actions in Gaza and criticized the United States and some Western countries for supplying arms to Israel amid the conflict. He also expressed Iran's readiness to continue negotiations with major world powers to lift anti-Iran sanctions, reiterating that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful as verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Commitment to the nuclear deal
Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran's commitment to its obligations under the nuclear deal, calling on Western nations to respect Iran’s position and stating that pressure and sanctions are ineffective. He emphasized Iran's historical integrity and stability, advocating for regional détente and cooperation.
In his concluding remarks, Pezeshkian called on regional countries to avoid conflicts and invest their resources in development and unity. He stressed his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong and cooperative regional environment.
Pezeshkian now has 15 days to present his cabinet to the parliament for a vote of confidence, marking the beginning of his presidential term aimed at strengthening Iran’s regional and global standing.
