Ankara slams Israeli strikes on Syria, calls for peace in Syria
Israel must immediately cease its aggressive actions, which are driving the region toward chaos and could have irreversible consequences, said Zeki Aktürk, head of the press service of Türkiye's Ministry of National Defence.
Aktürk said that the strike on the centre of the Syrian capital following attacks in the south of the country was a “blatant provocation that undermines hopes for peace and stability,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry's post on X.
The rear admiral stressed that Syria has reached a historic point where it has the opportunity to return to a peaceful life and reintegrate into the international community.
“This opportunity must not be missed. Efforts aimed at securing lasting peace and security in Syria must be supported,” he added.
The Defence Ministry emphasized that Türkiye’s position on Syria remains unchanged. “Ankara supports a safe, stable, and strong Syria that has preserved its territorial integrity and political unity,” the statement reads.
Türkiye is closely monitoring the interaction process between the new Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as well as the situation surrounding recent clashes in Syria.
The ministry confirmed that Turkish units and personnel stationed in Syria were not affected by the Israeli airstrikes.
