Moscow absent again as Davos Forum prepares for 2026 meeting
Russian representatives have not been invited to the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, the Russian Embassy in Bern told RIA Novosti.
Forum organisers have refrained from inviting both official Russian figures and members of the Russian business community since 2022. According to the embassy, this policy remains unchanged ahead of the 2026 gathering.
“The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Switzerland has also not received from the WEF any official invitations for Russian representatives to participate in this event in 2026,” the diplomatic mission stated.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump plans to attend the forthcoming World Economic Forum in Davos.
Sources cited by The Telegraph have not ruled out the possibility of a meeting on the forum’s sidelines between Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which the two leaders could discuss the details of a prospective bilateral agreement on post-war reconstruction valued at $800 billion.
The World Economic Forum is a Swiss nongovernmental organisation that convenes annual meetings bringing together business leaders, political decision-makers, and experts from various sectors. The WEF counts around one thousand major companies and organisations among its members. The 2026 forum is scheduled to take place from January 19 to 23, with “The Spirit of Dialogue” announced as its central theme.
