Russia investigates Rosatom executive over alleged financing of Ukraine’s military
Russian authorities have launched an investigation into Mikhail Shcherbak, an employee of Atomstroyexport (ASE), a major engineering subsidiary of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, on suspicion of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The investigation was confirmed to the Russian state media TASS by Rosatom, which stated that Shcherbak is “providing the necessary assistance”. No further details about the alleged financing or the scope of the investigation were disclosed.
According to information published on Atomstroyexport’s official website, Shcherbak currently serves as the company’s Director of Capital Construction. Atomstroyexport acts as the management company for Rosatom’s engineering division and is involved in large-scale nuclear construction projects in Russia and abroad.
Prior to joining ASE, Shcherbak held the position of deputy head of the city administration in Sarov, a closed city in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region that is closely associated with the country’s nuclear industry.
