Türkiye hopes for swift reopening of Strait of Hormuz, FM Fidan says VIDEO/UPDATED

Türkiye hopes the Strait of Hormuz will reopen to shipping in the near future, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said following talks in Ankara with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani.

Fidan noted that Türkiye welcomes the statements indicating the possibility of renewed negotiations between the United States and Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“We hope for the swift restoration of the ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. We will continue to contribute to this process and support the negotiations," Fidan added.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has met with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, in Ankara, where the two sides discussed issues related to regional developments.

The meeting was held behind closed doors before the two ministers held a joint press conference, Caliber.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

During the press conference, Fidan condemned Israel's attacks on Syria, saying they target the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity and are among the greatest threats to its stability.

He also addressed the Gaza peace plan, noting that despite the agreement, Israel's continued attacks have once again demonstrated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not want peace.
