Putin to attend CIS heads of state summit in Turkmenistan
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Turkmenistan on October 9, 2026, according to Russia’s ambassador to Ashgabat, Ivan Volynkin.
Speaking at a briefing with journalists, Volynkin said the summit would be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, located in the Caspian Sea port city of Turkmenbashi. He also noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to visit Turkmenistan earlier in October, ahead of the CIS leaders’ meeting, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.
In addition, Volynkin announced that a Russian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin will travel to Ashgabat on January 28–29 to conduct high-level bilateral consultations focused on regional security issues.
The ambassador further stated that Russia is also expecting a visit by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Turkmenistan in connection with a meeting of the heads of government of CIS member states.
