Moscow expects arrival of US president’s representatives for peace talks

Kremlin is awaiting a visit from US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner,  Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to Peskov, the exact date for Kushner and Witkoff’s trip to Moscow has not yet been set.

“No, the dates have not been determined yet, but we are certainly interested in such a visit, and we are expecting it,” he told the briefing.

Foreign media previously reported that Witkoff and Kushner intend to travel to Moscow in the near future for talks with President Vladimir Putin. During the visit, they are expected to present Putin with the latest draft of a 20-point peace proposal prepared jointly by representatives of Ukraine and the United States.

Witkoff and Kushner last visited Moscow in December, when they held nearly five hours of discussions with Putin, although the talks did not result in a breakthrough. Witkoff met with Putin in Russia six times over the past year.

The planned trip follows a meeting on January 6 in Paris, where representatives from 35 countries and international organisations gathered to finalise work on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Following the consultations, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration outlining their intention to deploy troops to Ukraine should a peace agreement be concluded.
