Media: Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder visits Moscow

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is on a visit to Moscow, according to German broadcaster N-tv.

The channel reported that Schröder was spotted at the Baltschug Kempinski Hotel, suggesting that his trip may be linked to his participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a briefing on May 9 that he considers Schröder a preferred mediator for potential dialogue between Russia and Europe.

He noted that European countries could choose a negotiator who has not made harsh statements against Moscow.

However, senior European diplomats have rejected the idea.
