TASS: Iran rules out talks with US until Washington halts military strikes

Tehran considers it impossible to resume negotiations with Washington while the United States continues to carry out strikes on Iranian territory, an Iranian source told TASS.

“Unfortunately, they [the US] are attacking us at the moment. And when they attack, we cannot begin negotiations. Talking about negotiations under these circumstances is unacceptable,” the source said.

He added that if Washington genuinely intends to return to talks, it must first halt its attacks and bombing campaign against Iran.

“If they [the US] want to start negotiations, they must stop attacking and bombing our country,” the source stated.

The latest escalation in the US-Iran conflict began on July 8. The US military launched several rounds of strikes on Iranian territory for the first time since the signing of a memorandum between Washington and Tehran, in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The same day, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Tehran launched strikes against US facilities across the Middle East, including in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman.
