Media: Israeli attack on Lebanon leaves eight victims

28 October 2024 12:10

Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health has stated that at least eight people were killed and 25 others injured on October 27 due to an Israeli strike near the southern city of Sidon.

The attack occurred in a densely populated suburb of Sidon, which has seen an influx of families displaced from further south, Caliber.Az reports per Al Jazeera.

This marked the first strike in the area since the Israel-Hezbollah conflict began.

"The Israeli enemy's raid on Haret Saida resulted in a toll of eight killed," the ministry stated.

A child was among the victims. One apartment was destroyed in the strike on a three-story residential building, with surrounding shops and structures also sustaining damage as paramedics rushed to the scene to search for survivors.

The Israeli army had issued evacuation warnings for several areas in southern Lebanon on October 27, but Haret Saida was not included among the targeted locations.

Since the conflict began on September 23, at least 1,615 people have died in Lebanon, although the actual number is likely higher due to data gaps.

The UN's migration agency reports that at least 1.3 million individuals have been displaced, with over 800,000 of them relocated within Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities said that more than half a million people have fled into Syria, the majority of whom are Syrians.
