Media: Kyiv weighs ending conflict Reassessment of territorial goals
Kyiv has initiated discussions on potential avenues to resolve the ongoing conflict, suggesting that Ukraine may be prepared to abandon its ambition to reclaim lost territories.
This revelation comes from a senior official in Kyiv who spoke to German publication, Caliber.Az reports.
The official expressed a shift in perspective, stating, “We believed that victory should be the unconditional surrender of Russia. But without concessions, this will be impossible. The deal should also be favourable for Russia.”
Additionally, the official acknowledged concerns regarding future U.S. presidential elections, indicating that regardless of who assumes the presidency, the pace of support for Ukraine is likely to diminish. Morale among Ukrainian troops is reportedly waning, with citizens increasingly reluctant to continue fighting, as the harsh realities of war threaten to fracture society.
On October 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine has been working on a "peace formula" since July, with plans for its completion by November.
Earlier reports from Bloomberg noted that Ukraine's Western allies are exerting pressure on Zelensky to formulate a strategy for ending the military conflict, highlighting a recent increase in his willingness to engage in negotiations with Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum on September 5, reiterated Russia's readiness for negotiations with Ukraine, provided they adhere to previously established agreements reached in Istanbul.
