Media: Pashinyan to convene commission to draft new constitution

The Armenian daily Hraparak writes that members of the Constitutional Reform Commission will most likely meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan next Friday to discuss the issue of drafting a new constitution for Armenia.

"Our sources are sure that Pashinyan will not create a new council, firstly because of the lack of time, and secondly because few people will agree to take part in this process. The current council and committee also have people who don't want to participate," the newspaper says, per Caliber.Az.

"They had an intense debate on the issue at the last session. They said that the current bodies can't be the writers of a new constitution, they don't have that mandate, and they can only be drafters of amendments. In addition, representatives of independent bodies such as the Ombudsman and members of the Supreme Judicial Council cannot solve the political problem," the article notes.

As a reminder, the current Armenian constitution includes territorial claims to Azerbaijan.
