Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia set parliamentary agenda for regional cooperation

The speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia are set to hold their first trilateral meeting later this year, with a focus on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation within a regional framework.

The announcement was made by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili following a meeting in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart, Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

Papuashvili stated that the idea for a trilateral parliamentary format was first proposed two years ago.

A meeting was initially planned for 2023 in Türkiye but was postponed due to the devastating earthquakes that struck the country.

“We have agreed to hold the inaugural trilateral meeting this year at the level of parliamentary speakers, where we will discuss cooperation among the parliaments of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia in a regional context,” Papuashvili said.

He also noted that Georgia would soon host a Turkish parliamentary delegation, while a visit by the Georgian parliamentary committee on defence and security to Türkiye is scheduled for the autumn.
