Moscow mayor rejects relocating Russia’s capital to other regions

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has rejected proposals to move Russia’s capital from Moscow to other regions, describing the idea as complex and ineffective.

Speaking at the 11th Moscow Financial Forum, Sobyanin said suggestions to move the capital to areas beyond the Urals, including Siberia or the Far East, periodically emerge as a way to encourage regional development, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

He argued that relocating the capital would neither be a simple nor an effective solution, noting that similar practices in a number of countries had failed to produce the intended results.
