Yerevan denounces Russian remarks on tycoon’s case as breach of sovereignty
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has strongly criticized public comments made by Russian figures concerning the ongoing criminal proceedings against Samvel Karapetyan, Armenian businessman and owner of Russia-based Tashir Group.
Mirzoyan described these remarks as “distorted and unacceptable,” emphasizing that they constitute interference in Armenia’s internal affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media
Speaking during the government hour in parliament, Mirzoyan addressed the controversy surrounding the case, stating, “Such statements are not only a violation of Armenia’s sovereignty and democracy, but also contradict the spirit of traditional friendship between Armenia and Russia, as well as the legal frameworks that underpin this relationship.”
The Armenian government views expressions of support for Karapetyan from Russian public figures as undue pressure on the country’s judicial process. Mirzoyan underlined that Armenia's legal proceedings must remain free from external influence, regardless of the nationality or status of those involved.
In response to the statements, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally communicated its position to Moscow. “The Armenian Foreign Ministry has conveyed its stance to our Russian counterparts by issuing a diplomatic note,” Mirzoyan confirmed.
