Iran rejects Western pressure to sever ties with Russia
Iran has firmly stated that it will not cut its diplomatic or economic ties with Russia in response to demands from Western countries.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the issue during a press briefing, Mehr News reports.
“They (European countries - ed.) expect states that have friendly relations with Russia to break them at Europe’s behest. Well, that is completely unreasonable,” Baghaei said.
The diplomat stressed that Iran’s relationship with Russia is grounded in mutual interests and respect. He underscored that these ties are based on long-term cooperation rather than external pressure.
Baghaei also criticized Western nations, asserting that before instructing other countries, they should take responsibility for their own actions and fulfill their obligations.
The spokesman also addressed the recent visit of Iran’s foreign minister to Moscow, saying the trip took place as part of ongoing consultations between the two countries and within the framework of the comprehensive agreement between Iran and Russia.
